Desert Wheatear

Posted by JV (India, India) on 27 January 2009 in Animal & Insect.

Desert Wheatear (Oenanthe deserti). Crown and back sandy buff, a pale supercilium. Upper tail-coverts and basal half of tail creamy white, rest of tail black. Wings blackish brown. Throat and sides of head black, otherwise underparts buff white. Female grayer with wings and tail lighter brown with rufous-brown ear-coverts. Found in affects arid semi-desert broken tracts, either sandy, rock or with dunes. Also bush. Its small size and color provide good camouflage and makes it somewhat difficult to spot.
